Newbie,
Karen.
L168 have a tendency to change its color during different periods of the day...and when they get bigger, they tend to erm have the not so nice coloration...no more yellowish...well not that much left...mine's 1 year older now...No guarantee that they will leave ur plants alone...

If you wanna play pleco, this will be a good starter fish...they dun cost much here...tats the good part...bad part is...you'll find out soon

Wow, I never dream this pleco business can be so addictive.
First of all, my thanks to your response.
I bought the L190 ( or L191 ) from a fellow hobbyist CMingHun out of curiosity and a sense of novelty ($70/= was big to me for a Banda Raya's relative )
Will try to post picture later.

Never imagine L46 can be more than $1,000/=.
Really high class Bandar Raya lah ( should call it the Metropolitant Paris or New York City Council man ).
If not careful, can kena trap in this expansive indulgence man.
Standoyo should be a prime candidate..........

But 'Kow Thow' to your interest and knowledge of this class of fish.
Keep up to the good work you have done to this forum.

Cheers.

Well there are some confusions here and there. But its understandable as there are many variant of plecos that actually look alike. To differentiate them, you would need a pro to help you out. Like the Peruvian L191 and the columbian L191...lokks the same but the Peruvian guy has a yellow seam on the fins...just for a simple example.

u get the idea.

Anyway for new comers, please do try out the cheaper range of plecos first before moving on to the professional stuffs.

Things to consider when making a choice :
  • signs that they dont have sunken eyes
  • or sunken belly
  • any sickness...especially rotting fins
  • any serious damages...physical battles or transportation
  • BEST TO CHOOSE THEM PERSONALLY.

Though pricing is high, it is often more worth your money when the fish is alive rather than cheaper but the fish goes home early

PLEASE DUN THINK THAT THIS EXOTIC PLECOS ARE VERY HARDY LIKE THE CHEAP ONES U SEE IN THE LFS. THEY ACTUALLY DIE VERY EASILY AND WITHOUT MUCH OF YOUR EFFORT TO KILL THEM.

Oh yar...one more reminder...:

BUY THE FISH NOT BECAUSE ITS BEAUTIFUL BUT RATHER CHOOSE THOSE THAT ARE HEALTHY. COLORATION CAN IMPROVE ONCE THEY REALLY SETTLED DOWN IN YOUR TANK...PROVIDED IT IS SAFE

Think Kev has some stuff coming real soon...but if u dun intend to cough out a big sum (100++), then you can always drop by and see see or maybe try out some lower range ones...hehe
