u didnt mention the fish u bought, but generally cichilds will not eat when first introduce to a new tank , especially if its an adult fish. dont worry, they wont die...they can go on for weeks without food....and the last thing anyone would hear is a cichlids that straved to death. if the fish is health , they will eat soon or later and it doesnt matter what u feed them , after they gotten over the shock of a new enviroment, they will eat.

thanks for the information. One of them actually did die, but it was probably from something else. Any idea what it may be?

its hard to tell, since u didnt describe your tank set up and what u did after the fish was introduced or the condition of your fish when purchased. but a healty midas dont just die. they could survive very bad water condition , mild climate(as low as 20'C), get battered by bigger fish or even go without food.they are a very hardy fish, that needs minimal care.

oh. Do you think it may have been the store's treatment of the fish?? I have a 10 gallon tank with lots of places for them to hide and I didn't do anything unusual after they were introduced into the tank that I know of.

since u cant do anything about the dead, simply ignore it and carry on with your other fish. fishes do die and sometimes we have no explaination about it ....but u dont have to crack your head and have sleepless nites worring about it....just as long as the other fishes are doing fine ...u shouldnt alter your set ups or add in any medication which is actually what most aquarist do. i dont advice that. u should know that midas will grow big , even in a small tank, and 10 gallons is way to small even for one midas, since u have several, be prepare for war.

in the wild over 30cm, while in an aquarium 25cm would be easy to achieved
