the setup is still not up to my expectation...
rock decoration is not that good and tank is not big enough, should at least 6x2.5x2.5...

well, the fishes looks happy enough, suppose u would leave it at that. sometimes what seems pleasing to our eyes might not mean your fishes are happy with it too. after all we here to admire the fish...not the decoration.the less we mess with the set up the better. thats why before u set up your tank...plan the tank size to how big your your fish will grow...draw up what u want in print. not ..after u add in the fish , then try to rearrange things....your fish wouldnt like that even though they have no way of telling u so ... this is the basic novice error....but many old timers do carry this habbit. have a hard heart , resist all tempations for a redeco. anyway ...frontosa...will take a long time to grow ...so this set will be okay for the time being as u save up to get a 6footer , which is a must ..... once those frontosa grows bigger they will tear each other up.

thanks bro ari for the knowledge sharing...
my friend (also frontosa keeper) ask me to let go all the mblues and trade in for more zaires to free up some tank space.. they are my fish batch of frontosa, eventhough they are all F1 with the common white spot defect on their stripes but i hv keep them close to 1 and a half year, some grew from little to big size of now, got some feeling with them

once u r into frontosa, u cant resist the temptation of zaire, and so do i, that is why i added 3 F0 and 2 F1 kapampa later and never thought of the tank space problem:P

space will be a problem my friend...these fishes will get really big. an eight to ten year old speciment will not share its tank with any similar size fish. they are loners once they reach adulthood. actually i dont grade frontosa by numbers i.e ...f1 or fo but by their name to avoid confusion and cheating by the LFS. kapampa, zaire and burundi being the more common ones ...i really like the kasanga ,bulu point and especially the kigoma(man, i cant afford this one). well, keep your fish , dont trade it...after all its no easy to sell or trade with LFS...unless they could make something out of it

hi bro,
ur statement is quite different from what i hv learnt from many frontosa forum, i hv seen many setup with mix of the size from 1 year old to 10 years old frontosa, the are doing very well in a colony.
to me, f1 and f0 is very important, cause f0 parents can guarantee produce with pure lineage of f1 generation, can make some profit after sell them off to reduce the spending on the hobby.
the friend i mentioned above do keep a colony of kigoma, and just to let u know that kigoma is not that high price, almost same as burundi.

yea..i must agree with u. i have read from the books too that they could be kept in a colony...but no such luck for me. they kept going for each other s throat, and that happen after 3 years of living together.(i have 7).the winner kept watch in the tank while the losers all 6 of them stayed at the corner and refused to stray far unless food is offered. thats the reason why i stopped keeping them a few years back. ah, kigoma cost about 5000baht(rm500) for a 4 inch fish while burundi cost about 800baht(rm80) for a 5inch one.this is thailand. i sure cant afford a rm500 fish my friend. so how much does a kigoma cost in K.umpur?

hey bro,
i think the frontosa pricing has been revised since ur times
burundi in KL only rm15-rm25 each, size around 1.5 inches(mostly taiwanese stock)
kigoma is around rm35-rm45 each, size also around 1.5 inches(but we can have it only through import from German, so far never seen it before in normal lfs)
the price of rm500 u mentioned should about to get a wild caught zaire about 4-5 inches size.
and i heard alot of wild caught good frontosa(kigoma, burundi, ikola, zaires..) have been brought in to Thailand for mass breeding.
so is the time to come back to frontosa world
