Question Where can I buy Balloon Rams like these?

I've been looking and looking for suitable Ballon Rams for over a year now. Still haven't found one I like in the LFS. Either the colour is faded, the fish looks sickly, the body is the gold coloured ones. Has anyone come across nice Balloon Rams like these ones? http://www.geocities.com/yutaka_loo/

Are Rams like Rummy Noses... where the colour does not show until you have an optimum aquarium for it to thrive? I found some in a LFS but the price was RM 15 a pair! Next to the normal Rams at RM 6 a pair... hmm... is this a reasonable price? I thought Balloon Rams costs about the same as normal Blue Rams?

if u can find them here , its almost impossible to find female rams in kl as they keep all of the females, they rather feed it to a predatory fish than sell it out cause its very easy to breed them. i got it from a friend though but its a gold coin ram. i've never seen a ram with this type of shape and colour. i've seen this colour and not the shape lol. best of luck finding them. well i dont kinda always go jln jln cari lfs. u can try asking this shop in jln pudu, alive aquarium. bring a picture and show him, he might have some leads for these fishes. he can bring in all sorts of fishes cheap or expensive. mostly cheap ones lah (common or exotic)

The ones shown in your link looks nice for a freaky fish...we do not see them here. what we get here are really considered balloned ram...
Its ugly in a sense its out of shape as some are too short and do not have a body profile...at all

Actually, I did come across balloon rams almost like the ones I showed in the link. Just that the colours were not so vibrant and the selling price was RM 15 per pair. I would buy them if only fellow forumers can advise me based on my initial two questions:

1. Do Rams get more colourful if the water conditions are good or what you see is basically what you get (colour improves only marginally)?

2. Is RM 15 for balloon rams a reasonable price to pay?

If I remebered correctly, this price is somewhat steep as RM 8 per pair should be as high as the price should go.... am I right?

Frankly i wont pay for such a fish...not even 8 bux.

Colors ? basically boils down to the breed aka strain...if its poor quality, colors will not be bright even though u give them lotsa good food.

I believe the term balloon for freshwater species refers to the short bodied variety of any species. So you will get balloon mollies which have shorter bodies than the normal mollies, and balloon platies and balloon rams... while I find balloon mollies and platies somewhat unnatural, I find balloon rams to be somewhat cute. This is my personal preference though and I do not see why some people have to lash out at others who actually prefer the short-bodied varieties... to each his own...

Red face Ballon Rams

Yup. I do agree it costs RM 15 a pair. I've bought it once. Really like the shown pic on the link. More blue & it's really as round as a balloon. Got 6 pairs but eventually all of them died. So I rest my case.

Got them from Xian Leng, Shah Alam.
