my bitanieta laid eggs....

she was seducing the male... then i notice she went over to this rock a couple of times... there are also times where she tried to guide the male to the rock...
well, the male followed... and what he did next is start eating the eggs... and the female just ignore that and continue laying eggs... at one point, where theres little eggs left, she bit and chased the male away... now shes all by herself playing with her eggs...

what happened?
is this normal??

rough sex...
ahem...can the experts/home breeder/seller on keeping these fishes please write an in depth article to support your business...?

otherwise next time you try to sell your fish nobody would wanna buy since it dies just by procreating.

are there any steps to reduce this violent female behaviour?

Uncle Yogigan,

I think it applies to most Apisto spp. but your bogwood also will do as long as there's some subtrate for them to lay their eggs. The problems is when you house more than 1 pair of them then others will try to poach the eggs. Thats why a flower pot make more sense because it has only the entrance so easier to defend. I think thats the rational behind it - to emulate the natural caves/hole/anything alike. So Uncle Yogigan, scoop the 'Tefe Buana' lar this trifas no challenge for you lar.... bitaeniata you alrd got somemore want meh??

Kekeke after patiently waited for more than 3 days the trifas eggs finally hatch. Hope this time the blardy female don't wallop the fries. Now have to wait another 48-hrs until the wiggly fries can swim. Keeping my fingers crossed.......
