Boulengerochromis microlepis (Tanganyikan emperor cichlid)
..... argubly the largest cichlid in the world. Reported to get some 3foot long.
...... comes from Lake Tanganyika, Africa.
There's actually a tank full of these fellas (sub adult) in Xian Leng (Shah Alam) display aquaria at the back.

I was told that they were propagated in China as meals..... but didn't take off.
Harumsundalmalam (wat a nick u have)........ Big Africans.... really depends on what you are into.... there's Tilapia Buttikoferi (nasty bugger) from the Rivers... and any other Tilapia species.. for Rift Lakes... you have the Predatory Haps... like Champsochromis Carrelleus which we were discussing in another thread. Theres Buccochromis species, Nimbochromis species are all rather large cichlids of the Rift Lakes. Apart from wat Kev has stated...... considerably the largest cichlid in the world which attains a size of 3 feet.
