Hi Guys,

I am relatively new to this forum. I just got myself a FL. Named him Peter. The thing is he is eating like a glutton and after a few minute, he spits out everything and eats the waste again.

Is this common behaviour for all FLs? Or is my Peter being childish?

Hi Vicvel,

I was waiting for somebody who has more experience to reply to you. Later I realised that most proprobly there isnt any cos flower horn is such a new species after all. So you should be considered an experience FH keeper afterall.

How is Peter now? Hope you have overcome his problem. My FH also throws up but only when dead prawns were accidently fed to him, but dead fish is okay he just wallop them like nothing.

My flower horn is now about 6", active and everyready for food. He even play catching game with the mopstick whenever my wife mops the floor. It is fun to have him now. Not like when he was about 4" he used to hide around and turned pail whenever there any movement. Now he even fight with the drain hose whenever I drain the water.

All the best to you & Peter.

Hi Vicvel,

I was not very sure about this before, but now i think i can answer you.

It's actuualy like this, SOME flowerhorns, they do spit out what they eat and eat it again when they are torn or tear into tiny pieces. Actually i saw it from 1 of my flower horn. I'm currently keeping 5 flower horns, but only 1 of them do this all of the time, and he do take the food again when he spit it out, Excluding live fish.

4 other Flowerhorn do it sometimes too, but not too often, and i believe that they like softer food, so for pallets, they eat it and they put in their mouth to mix up with the water, and spit them out to make it softer and "soaked"

But these are only my thoughs!

Cheers,
John

Hi John

Now he is taking it slow. He started doing this when I first fed him worms. Now he gobbles it up like a pro.

Only problem is he dislikes tetra growth food. Otherwise he is healthy and nice. Very active though.

Thanks for posting...hey man...all you guys realy make me a pro fish keeper

Hi Vicvel!

I agree with you! they don't like TETRA that much! i'm giving them the tetra cichlid color growth! but they don't like it much! they only take it when they are hungry. otherwise, they just grap it and spit it out...excluding red worms and fish, they love them
LOL!

Cheers!
John

for colour growth try betta. Don't feed Betta everyday though. It is a bit too strong for the fish.

The staple food must always be worms or live food. I am training Peter to take tetra growth enhancer.

Hi John, Vicvel,

I glad we are now talking. Thanks for the sharing.

I havent tred betta. I feel that thses specially formulared food its still very expensive especially those labelled for flower horn. If the benefits is worth more than the cost may be I try someday.

Bye for now

Agree with you Chong!

Sometimes they are really selling flour as what they call "pallets" on a hight price. one of my friends who keep FL kena this kind of "JOKE" the food smells like normal pallets, but when thrown into the water, they are like bread soak with water

That is why i'm feeding them trusted food, like Tetra or Azoo(heard that it's very good for the health!)

Hope you guys won't KENA(tried) the bad things.

Cheers!
John
