Your foreground plants would never make it with geophagus... they are eartheaters. You could do away with the ferns and probably some Amazon Sword plants, root them well as Geophagus are real diggers. You could go for Acarichthys Heckeli, Geophagus Jurupari or the real el cheapo Geophagus Surimamensis. You could compliment them with plecos.

My personal favourite is Balzani, looks like ultraman with the "kok". Used to be quite popular one time, now don't see anymore in lfs.

Don't worry ggMing, everyone goes thru this cichlid cycle, either you get out of it or you become stuck like CC forever. But not until you spend every single sen on it...hahahhaa.... that's what happened to me, EzieG, Colim etc etc.

Now I'm into small small ebi (I suspect japanese could have originate from Hokkien because "hebi" is small shrimp in Hokkien). The poison has reached my veins already....too late... don't cry for me...

Hahha...

Geophagus from South America la brader bukan CA...water pra pun big different...
Your set up bery chun for South American cichlids...but for Central American cichlids is asking too much la if u want keep with plants..coz they will attack plants no matter where u put them. try putting a synspilus or black belt in your setup..and u will see my point. Nicaraguense or Cryptoheros species...being the expection. can try with your setup.

U sure u wan geophagus??...takut u become sian ler...coz tara colour!
usually geophagus are for kakis who had become stale with other cichlids liao, sian laio....
Dwarfs also can la...but then dwarfs tara shock la...

if i were u...i will put in a pack of Uarus in your tank....waaaaaaaaaah ...chun! and tara kacau pokok.

I know Geophagus is SA ler.. just that its so commonly reffered to CA/SA aiyah.. mai chap lar. hehehehe. Water parameters wise, they are highly tolerant ler.

GG... U go google wat u want..... and let me know. More common ones are Jurupari, Balzani, Steindechneri, Surinamensis and Acarichthys Heckeli. The others can be arranged. Lotsa hype about Red Head Tapajos but they are not available. Ari.. Thailand can get rite?

As for Uaru... they get huge about 10-12 inches, whether they are nice is one's own opinion. Some people just don't like them 'coz they are a pale olive and with a big black spot over. They breed like Discus.. hence the name "Poor Man's Discus" coz they are cheap like chips...

Alternatively go for the real deal... Uaru Fernandezyepezi.. Rediscovery from Veneuzuela seems to have resurfaced in the last few years.. initially the prices were astronomical.. but have been reduced over time.. one of my all time favourites.. but bringing them in might be a hassle.
