Default I'm about to give up on local Rams

To date, I have bought 8 Balloon Rams, one even costing me RM7 (most were around the RM3 to 3.50 range). I suppose all are local variety. None have lasted me more than a year and the last surviving one is recovering from HiTH disease but popeye is appearing now... I bought 3 new ones to replace the ones I lost but they mysteriously died one after another in the quarantine tank after two weeks of purchase (No, I didn't mix sick fishes with the new ones). I love the coloration of the rams but the way they die so easily is making me very fed up....should I just give up on the local ones? Is there any technique to keep them? Has anyone successfully kept local rams for long? Is it because most of them are already having internal bacteria? So I need to detoxify them and also bomb Pottassium Permaganate on them before releasing to the main tank? Any advice appreciated...

Yogigan, your statement offers no solutions and you are confusing freaks with selectively bred fishes for specific traits. You have no right to judge me based on what kind of fish I like. You don't see me judging people because they like "pure" strains of fishes....

Hyper.. please don't take it too seriously. Yogi here is not judging.. he's just expressing the fact that these so called selective bred fishes for its specific traits really don't last very long in your tanks. No explanation whatsoever can be given, its probably a trade secret. My reasoning is that they are usually raised from mud ponds.. not quarantined and send to the wholesalers and to LFS and then to hobbyists tanks at home. They are probably more susceptible to diseases during transit.

As for German rams, there's no doubt that there are no LFS stocking them. We are breeding them true here in Malaysia... and if you'd like some you can p.m me for the prices. With a glance you'd probably have problems differentiating the German ones with our local stocks.. but if you see them often enough you can tell. Their dorsal fins just seems erected at most times.... and the body is well proportioned.

unless you get offended when one call a fish a freak...

it's not the inherent genetic weakness of the fishes. Its how u reared them as a fish keeper.

do u know that arowanas are very hardy pre-historic fishes? they are highly resistant to diseases n sicknes but YET got one fellow can rear aros until die and guess what, DIE A FEW oredi. Long long time meet/hear one time, sure hear his aro die. Hehehehe he may also be reading this post hahahaha
