Hi everyone! I'm new here. Thought I'd share my MP's. The first one is male, the second one is female. The spots on the top of the body towards the middle of the dorsal fin are fry I spooked her while taking the pics though and she darted and bumped herself in the tank number of times I hope it's nothing serious.

Yoda! nice MP, especially the shape of female...But,from the photo both of them look so red, izzit because of lighting?

By the way, dunno true or not that female has more outstanding red compare to a male?

Nice pair u have got there........

But I would have thought MP should be more orangy pink rather than so red.

Anyway, would u mind telling what % of the fries turn out to be like the parents ?

Welcome Yoda!

Nice and clean melons you have there!

Have you been feeding these melons with TetxxBxtx? The reason I'm asking is because my melon also looks similar to yours...i almost would call it a "Red Diamond"

Anyways, good luck with the fries!

See ya around!

You are correct. They should be more orange than the pics. I didn't notice it last night to compare when I took the pics. I think it's the lighting if not the camera (Please tell me it's the camera so I can tell the wife to buy a new one ). I didn't use the flash because it reflects off the glass and gives weird shadows on the pic.

I'm not sure if it's true for all MP's but I like the color (and the shape) of the female better.

I'll give an update in about 2 months how the fry turn out. Water here is hard. I followed the advise of a hobbyist/breeder to just put rock salt to make the water soft. I forgot he lives in a another city. Out of 228 eggs, about 3-5 turned white, and about 2.5 to 3 dozen hatched. The dad practiced on two-thirds (first successful hatch for the pair, although mom looked like a pro already). There's less than a dozen that survived and hopefully make it. I'm assembling the R/O unit this weekend.

Hehe! I feed them Colorbits, blackworms and earthworm flakes.

I'll see what I can do with the pics with Photoshop. If it doesn't work, I take more pics.

i oso got melon/marlboro to show. not as red as yoda...but they already producing fries at second spawn, cute hor. this is a male with no color enhancer fed. the female in the next tank recuperating, once fries is big enuff to be separated the female will go back in again...hehe

whoopee, the last spawn your melon also got fries but not much. about 15 to 20...i didn't bother bcoz not much fries...waiting for the next spawn. i finally got a productive partner for your melon..

Good for you man, Spiky!
Glad that you have finally found a working male melon for the female....here goes a starting point for future mass production!

It's better for you to feed those fry with baby brine shrimp/artemia, instead of daphnia though.

Keep us posted here with the fry development!

Cheers!
