hi andrew,

nice to meet you. i heard your name before from stan, glad can meet you and learn from you in this forum. of course my 5 years experience can't compare to your 32. but just want to share it.

maybe there was a misunderstanding.
first, i was not saying that i forced to increase the temp with heater. but i keep them in room temp. means, i keep my discus at the third floor in 9mx12m room. have 3 windows and 1 widw doors. in day time the temp 27-28c, but in night time will increase to 30-32c. this can happen because in night time i closed all the windows and door. if i set the heater to 32c the temp can increase until 35c.(when they were sick). but i try to keep them as natural as i can. not using any med, salt of heat.
so in room temp i think won't cause any problem.
using b complex to increase the appetite i used it before. but i got some info that b complex can't dissolved perfectly in water. so the best way is to put the b complex mix with bh. the problem is many discus didn't like the smell of the b comp so they won't eat it. how is your experience in this?
thanks

baby

hi andrew,

great for sharing your breeder's pov. it really helps understand the economics side of it.
yes a wipeout is a nightmare. like watching your share prices fall to zero.
even as hobbyist i already have a steady number of fish dying per week. i seriously think i've od'ed them on pp on one occasion.

can an overdose of pp destroy some organs in the fish permanently? i suspect this as one by one the fellas fall prey to not one but a but string of disease one after another. loss of appetite, pop eye, darkening, listlessness, white spot. pretty much a headache.the other day i od'ed on salt. one fella's eyes popped out like a hanged man.

sigh

I believe we all have personally heard about and/or experienced the use of various types or ways of medication on our precious discus in one way or another. Sometimes they worked well but you'd wish some cases could have been more effective.

In any case, IMHO, the contributions/advice so far from the (experienced)members here would certainly enhance our knowledge on discus-keeping and help us apply those theories/guidelines in a practical manner, assuming ALL other parameters being normal/neutral.

I guess sometimes we can only be successful by making mistakes in the first place.

Cheers!

Dear Andrew,

Ahh, I have checked the book again.

Its "VB Exterminator" you mentioned in in Page 138 and 140 of DNT.

Wah lau, very far from what I mentioned ( EV )

Anyway, please let us know more about this and where we can get this product.

Cheers!

Hi baby,

I am surprised to know that on 3th floor with all doors and window closed, the temperature goes up to 32C. I think that is with the heater on right?

In cement tanks on ground, it is possible because after the sunset, the heat that was being absorbed by the ground during the day will be released back up...through the tanks then through the water thus releasing heat which is usually hotter than the average temperature of the day (kinetic).

What I don't advise is to maintain at high temperature. That is MO..

'VB' is Virus and bacteria exterminator. I was able to rid my 2 hectre farm of Irido virus within 2 to 3 months using VB. Even the Vet was shocked. We do not sell as a single product anymore. It is actually quite similar to Pro-more. The only difference is that to fight against pathogens, the dose is 5 folds that used for inducing spawning. So, you can use pro-more and all supplements are to be added to feed and not directly to water.

As my wife is coming to KL and is leaving tomorrow, I can ask her to help in saving transport and remittance costs. So, check with Standoyo...he may be able to help you out. Give him a PM.

Hi Whoopee, you are right...and I have made many mistakes in the past and with my nature to take risk....made too much mistakes. And now, I'm relating all my solutions to those interested.

Stan, your problem is not a result of using PP or overdose of it. The only side effect I know of is that overdose of PP (extremely) will cause gill filament damage due to oxidation. PP will not cause those that you mentioned.

I think that there is some bacteria infection in your little hatchery. This needs a systematic treatment...once and for all....whether all the discus are affected or not. Follow the solution for scenario 6 in my book. Repeat treatment in 4 days if needed.

And when you add new discus, do the quarantine treatment system.

Take care guys,
Andrew

Dear Andrew,

Thanks for this further lead.
Will try this out accordingly.
As I already add pro-grow in the beef heart, I will assume that I can add 5 time dose of Pro-more to the above.
Is that correct interpretation Andrew?

Cheers!

BT Lee

PS: Stan, I didn't order Pro-more last time becuse I thought its for people intending to breed their fish.
Now please include me in your order urgent!

Default Good luck

Wow..Stan...the Albino really looks bloated big time man! Sorry for you too, i also have never had luck/success in curing bloaters before, albeit all theories and experience shared by the masters here...gua still learning from mistakes and praying hard that it won't strike me again.

Hope with the more sophisticated advice here you could cure those bloaters soon.

Cheers!

Dear All,

Andrew said, if your fish fall sick try to roll back your memory and recall the event that lead to it ( sorry to quote/mis-quote you without permission, Andrew ).
So, can we share our observation on the events that resulted in this problem?
In my case, I can only go back to when I notice they stop eating.......then clamp fin follow by white faeces........

Maybe another new thread ehh?

Cheers!

BT Lee
