yup must agree with u..let the scientist do all the research and collection...but the point is.... if the breeders had not mess around with the real stuff,...aquarist wouldnt had made demands for wild stuff.
the reason u dont see is ...not everyone apperciate selective breeding or hybrids.
one thing u all must know...i rather have a tank bred pure strain than a wild one...why? if u been in the cichlid world long enough u would know why...and its not about preserving mother nature.

hi ari,
glad we agree about something other than liking wild strains...

but please explain what you mean by the above statement as i've not been deep enough into the african cichlid world[i assume you mean that as discus, angelfish are also cichlids] as i'd like to understand your point of view.

regards

stan

simple... quite a number of wild fishes comes with dieases, some which we dont even understand. most tank bred fishes especially the 2nd or 3rd generation will have stronger immune system to local conditions.
but the most important thing is will wild fishes survive their new surroundings in a tank? a really big risk to take for an expensive fish. after all we cant compare ourselves to jack watley..hahaha

ie ...wild angel fish is known to be diease infested, mix with local fish ie the clown loach...u will end up with all sort of problems... local fishes have no immune system to fight foreign dieases

hmmm,

well quarantining fish is always important for new fish[wild or hybrid]...just a drop of contaminated water and your whole setup is screwed...

[being experienced means something happened!]
