I got some butterfly fishes, but they recently all died. They were filled with white spot, but despite medication, they still didn't make it. I had also tested the water specific gravity & NO2, it is at the right range. Is there anything that i miss??
Thx in advance, Carol |

Thx for the advice.
My tank is 1.2M Long X 0.9M Tall X 0.45M Deep. Filled with some fine sands & dried corals. It used to house 4 butterflies fish and now only left with 2 star fish & a philippines sea apple. There isn't much husbandry as it is a pretty new tank and i am green in this field. All filters are brand new and only specific gravity & NO2 are tested. Please advise if there is any other test / procedure i need to undertake. Thx for the patience. |

First of all, you need to identify where is the source of this disease. From my experience, you having lack of husbandary skills. You need to perform maitenance on your sand bed and improve your water circulation. For your solutions, please change 30% of your tank water each day for 3 times and then do a proper cycle for another 1 week. Adding some cleaning crews such as cleaner shrimp & turbo snails will helps. For your salinity, please keep in the range of 1.018 to 1.023. High salinity will promote more ICH activities while low salinity will slow down all the process. Advise : you need to do more research since all you items are brand new. carolwong79,how new is your tank? some fishes do require a mature tank with microfauna for them to graze and peck on.
i can gather from your posting, you are indeed very new in the hobby. do research more on the livestocks you intend to purchase and see if you can provide them the enviorment they require to thrive. watch your sea apple carefully.it's a time bomb in the making. |

getting the basics right means getting a better understanding on what goes on inside a marine tank. what we are trying to do is replicate what goes on in nature,on a smaller scale and in a confined enviorment(making the task harder). learn what liverocks, skimmer and sand bed do for you. there are a lot of info on the net on this. google them up and take a read. come back with more specifis question so ppl here can give you more precise answers. good luck. having a thriving marine tank can be very rewarding. |

The only problem is many 'experts' seem to advise against keeping marine tank by telling us novies that water need to change weekly, and 10 to 20%!!!!
Set up cost also up if you want to follow all the recommendations, CO2, sump, UV lgiht, etc. We are very basic player |
