I live in malaysia and had my nano tank for almost a year now.. but i still dont really know how to differentiate the Lightings.. I mean i dont really know which lights are for which corals.. Any advice?? im currently using 9 watts PL lights for my tank.. i have a bubble coral and a frogspawn.. they are doing ok...
Im interested in having bubble anemones and other more colourful corals but i heard they need high intensity lightings.. If that so, how high is good enough? |

Hi,
Lighting is one of the most important aspects of a nano reef. Like all reef aquariums, it is necessary to have relatively high intensity lighting for your corals. There are many different ways to achieve proper lighting on a nano reef. Check this link for more info: Nano-Reef.com - Nano Reef Articles - Lighting Options |

From what I read and from personal experience, normal bluye and white light is sufficient for a tank with a depth of less tha 2 feet (60cm). Sorry I don't know how to tell the difference between a PL and VHO. I've seen some Arcadia tubes in the shops sell for around RM50 (3feet). I'm not sure if they are VHO bulbs but they seem to have the correct light temperature.
Anyone out there can add more info? |

What is and Arcadia Lamp??
Will the Intensity of the lights makes a lot of difference in the temperature of the tank? I cant seem to lower the temperature much with my fan.. Is it true that when we have a bigger tank, then the temperature will be lower? |

If ur nano tank are meant for coral, T5 and Metal Halide are preferred, but the electricity consumption is pretty high, also it tend to raise the water temperature. You might need to offset that with a chiller cost between RM 900 to RM 1,200. Normally nano tank no ppl. will put those, a normal Ocean Free light balast will do the job. My tank is 1.5 ft I'm using a 2 ft adjustable Ocean Free light, i replaced the bulb inside with ADA NA Lamp, and Nirox Moon Bright, my fishes enjoy it. ![]() This light is very nice if i switch both, 15 W + 15 W = 30 W ![]() Without lighting, there is less fish activity, everything looks dull for the fish. |
