Hello there,

I am new here and to small cold water aquariums and really wanted some help with my Daughters cold water filter system.

When we bought the tank it had an under gravel filter which was hard to keep clean.

So I bought an Aqua Flow internal filter which un known to me was not working and hence the tank suffered.

Today I have bought a Cascade 300 internal filter which is now in the tank and seems to be working ok.

What I need is some help in how to mantain this filter such as how often to clean the sponge and when to replace the carbon cartridge....Oh this has been put back into a cleaned tank BTW

Also how often should I replace part of the water in the tank?

I would be grateful for any advice but go easy I am a new fish

Lee

Clean the sponge/foam in your filter with tank water(not tap water) at least once a week. Carbon should be replaced with new about every 4 weeks. However, can you give more detailed info on your setup? If you are not overstocked, perform a weekly water change of 25-50%. Though if you want to perform 50%, it is safer to perform a water change twice a week, 25% each time.

Btw, which part of UK are you?
