I don't know if it's normal or not, but all of my 4 goldfish (10 gal. tank) hang out in the right corner of the aquarium most of the day. They look very healthy but i still don't know why they group together and stay in that corner so much... Is it normal? what do you think?

Thanks for help!!!
Kate

Actually, I forgot to mention one more thing: they are at the surface a lot, too, looks like they are gulping the air... I have a filter and it provides good filtration/airation, and change water every couple of weeks.

Would be helpful if you provide water parameters like pH, Ammonia and Nitrite as well as the temperature of the water.

Huddled up in the corner and gulping is not a good sign.

Pls get the water tested and the results could hint at the underlying problems.

Hi Kevkoi,

I wasn't able to get the ph measured, I don't have the test here.. But I took the water sample to the store a few days ago and Ph, ammonia and nitrites were at acceptable levels.

One thing is - I bought a different filter, it seems to be quieter and I guess sucks in water at a smaller rate) and as I can see so far, they are not hanging out in that corner anymore...

Could it have been because of the filter, or something like too much air??

Also, I noticed that they don't seem to like the light in the hood being on a lot, it's not a flurescent, just a regular bulb, when the light is on they tend to be on the furface much more, gasping... Can they be too hot? (I don't have a heater)

thanks for your feedback!!

Possibly the incandescent light is heating up your aquarium too much, thereby causing less dissolve oxygen in the water and the fish gasp at the top to get more O2.

good luck

thanks kevkoi! so should I try turning on the light for short periods of time a couple of times thoughout the day? because I don't see any physical signs that something else is wrong, and the water samples came out fine... I guess I will try that.
take care! Kate

another thing you have to take care, the water cannot be too much.
because it can create a high pressure for your fishs.
and for gold fish it likes a fresh water i purpose is change the water
wash the filter everyday or else just wash the filter.
