Default GF pom pom infection???

hello,

My ranchu right 'eyebrow' (small pom pom) has swollen into big pom pom. As big as his eyes. i can see the blood n veins inside the big pom pom. Otherwise, no signs of other infections n fish acting normally.

Any ideas wat causes the pom pom to swell?? GF looked like big small eyes.

Do i need to quarantine it ??

Quarantine it. Could be a bacterial infection. Maybe internal bacteria infection. What's the water condition like? Always clean & clear or cloudy at times?

quarantined GF in a container. The swollen pom pom slowly growing bigger. But his appetite keep on increasing... will post again updates on him.

dont have water tester except pH tester (about 7 pH). Water is changed 50% twice weekly in cycled tank. i think ammonia, nitrate, nitrate should be in the safe level. water is clear but slightly yellow (tainted by red/green food pellet).

I forgot to switch on the pump for continuous 6 hours couple of months ago. water is yellow n dirty. did a 50% water change immediately. Will that mistake kill of good bacteria and uncycle my tank?

i dun think so. just get the anti-bacteria med, apply the correct dosage with lots of salt. it should subside. water ph bout 7 is fine. is your gf from china? if it is, it's pretty sensitive to water temp. anyways, all the best in curing this pompom k.

I wouldnt QT in a container, he needs the right ammount of water and filtration to get better, which you cant provide in a container.
what size is your tank and how many fish are in there?
if you dont have the test kits, you can just assume that the water is fine, even though you are doing all these water changes the water could still be dangerous. you need to go and get the test kits.
Id, put him back in the main tank, get the test kits, keep the water perfect, if you can find a good antibacterial med use that, check if you can use salt with the med (you cant with most) if you can use salt, salt to 0.1%, thats one teaspoon per gallon of water.

sorry for the late reply. tank is a 12 gallon (small 2 feet tank) and quarantine container is 8 gallon. only 2 GF in the main tank. The other GF is fine. Both tank n container using OHF heavily padded with sponges and bio rings.

dumped the infected GF into the 8 gallon. Didnt use the main tank bcause meds will uncycle the tank. and changing 50% of water once every two days or even once a day is painstaking even for 12 gallon. Put in salt but not yet use any meds yet, any suggestion? searched the WWW for pom pom infection but come out nothing.

Infected GF is eating greedily as ever and behave like normal.

Err...... can i just cut off the infected pompom portion??? it looks like it is going to stay there forever......

It'd be great if you posted a picture..
ok since the QT is 8 gallons id put the infected fish back in the main tank and keep the other fish in the QT because he will be able to cope with the unfiltered water better. you might not need meds, just perfect water and salt it might clear up by itself, and even if you do need meds you will just have to cycle the tank again, you cant just let your fish die because you cant be bothered to help him.
