Default green water question

i was wondering. after you have had goldfish in green water and then place them in clear, does the goldfish lose the form and color that the green water produced?

Default 2 bird 1 stone

I've been rotating between green water and clear water without any worries.

Back to the main question...

If your fish has a firm round body with sharp and fine scales (that's what you'll get with green water)... but the size of fish (length mostly) grows very slowly. So, what we did is to use clear water with heavier feedrate (20-25%) more than what we feed during green water period. That's is to boost the "size" of the fish.

You'll notice the size/weight will grow much faster but colour will start fading and scale gets more coarse. (If you leave some carpet algea around for the fish to nip, most likely the colour will remain quite good for a long time).

There r much details with the rotation technique but I really don't know where to start with. It is best you give it a try then we'll discuss it along the process. Feeding, water management, no. of fish, hand training, exercise, age+size, etc. all matter and depends on case by case basis.

For my case, I've 9 fish in one tank (4' x 5' x 6 inch depth). rotating between clear water and green water depending on the fish development (2-3 months) and the ranchu was hatched last april and now they are ranging from 14.5cm to 17.5 cm. My friend use the same technique for his ranchu which is 6 months older then mine and it is more then 20cm inlength. colour is deep and scales r fine. AND IT IS STILL GROWING!!!!

Have fun!

Most japanese uses clear water during march till aug-sep. then green water (various density) for cold weather.
