watch out for the density and aviod evening feeding. I guess you have done your research enough and know what you r doing.

I'm quite curious, normally, summer is for size boosting. means with clear water and heavier feeding due to water temperature is best for digestion and exercise. And winter is normally fwith green water. For resting, hibernation and "repair" of what's over done during summer; not forgetting preparation of parent fish for breeding.

Well, it all depends what you want to achieve via utilisation of green water and what sort of gold fish you r keeping.

Anyway, have fun.

Cheers.

oh right, i didnt know about the summer and winter thing. But i'm in England so summer is the only time i can ever really do greenwater as its too cold here in winter, unless i pay a ton for good lighting and try it indoors.

I just want to give it a go and see what it improves in my fish, like colour, size etc. etc.
I have Oranda and Ranchu.. only about 2-3 inches so im hoping for some nice growth, I hear GW is good for wen growth too, with all that algae to munch on?

I'm not a breeder or anything, really these are pet fish but i am interested in breeding and showing and hope to start doing that when i get a house of my own (i'm still at college and living with parents.. they aren't very keen on having tons of fish tubs/tank all over their house ).

So i guess avoiding evening feeding is to lower the ammonia level going into the water at night because the algae isnt photosynthesising and detoxifying it?

People actually think of green water as a problem, I don't understand why I WANT green water and I can't seem to grow it. My water always clears after a while..Only time I managed to do this was when I had a couple of turtles in a tank out in the sun and they were well fed. So I guess a lot of organic matter and sunlight is the key. Some suggest the use of rabbit pellets to 'seed' the water. I don't know why this is so. The useful thing about green water is euglena, which forms a big part of infusoria eaten by fish fry. It could be possible that rabbit pellets contain these organisms to kickstart the culture. I need greenwater to feed daphnia :P.

Soyadude have you had a look at this link? http://www.arofanatics.com/members/d...ercultivation/
Its good

I think the rabbit pellets are probaby used as a source of ammonia as the greenwater needs that to live.

Definately!, you'll notice the wen will growth after 2-3 weeks. as well as the colour, and body shape.

BINGO!

Avoid evening feeding just to reduced the ammonia built up!!??.

OMG, i been feeding my goldy at 8.00pm after work.No wonder their gapping at the surface in the morning, but my solution is to add more Xtras pump at night.

On the other hand,I do realised that feeding late at night might eventually turn up some of my goldfish specially the round body type having bloating and now under medication with clear water. Thanks for this great info.
