Cos for this size, the IKEA tank size is still suitable for the baby up to 3-4.5 months old. Other wise, it can use as hospital, quarantine, etc in the later stage.

Hope this clear things out a little.

Hi Yeemiau,

So you suggest i cultivate the green water in my cement tank?
Actually the Ikea tank, I just use to tank water for now..not yet top keep the babies. Soon maybe, or whenever situation needed.
The green carpet algae is not yet appearing in the main tank, i understand now it's due to limited of sunlight (need to get alternative light)
The spare tank i setting up the green water is a 3' std aquarium, it's already crack so cannot hold deep water...only up to 3"-4", just nice depth. Now i can see tiny worms in the greenish water.

I did not set green water in the cement tank cuz it's too heavy to move around to sunny area. I may need to get 2 units ligthing for that....this is in my planning (to do by end of august).

Today i bought a male betta (ikan laga) to guard the tank from mosqueto and i hope he'll sapu all the worm elsewell.......
Always remember you can get fined for breeding mosquito...last week somebody frm my apartment got 'demam denggi', that's what we dont want!!!

Here are some photo to better explain my setup scenario.
Look carefully , maybe you can see the worm.......

Cheers,

Ho,

This is firstime ever i'm keeping ranchu, never before.
A lot to learn through this project (japanese ranchu), the end result is still far away..long journey to go tru. I've learn alot from our sifu group in ipoh (lam & vincent), thanks to them.
U ask me tips...i think in whatever you are doing you have to give full commitment.
1) Cement tank i'm using; temperature is cooler, it's good for the goldfish (as alternative you can use aquarium fan to do this. i've tried it does work temperature down about 2 degree than normal)
2) I also pour in "beneficial bacteria" into the water, this micro creature will turn the ammonia change to harmless substance. then the water will be safe for the fish. i do it becos i dont have carpet alge or green water yet.

I wish i have landed house, so i can have space and open sky, more sunlight for my ranchu.

Hi,

Introducing green water from other source is an alternative way to do it but it subject to certain risk of bringing in sickness. A small cup of the green water pour into the new tank, it'll kick start the grennwater process very quickly; again, it is risky, unless you are sure that the water is clear of virus. Also, betta might bring some other thing from other place too. So, watch out from this point of view. Lighting is a another alternative as you mentioned. Also, if the green water success in the glass tank, why not clear the old water and shift the ranchu there? this option also stands a good chance of getting things green. Provided you sure the water level can maintain 3"-4" safely (even it has certain leakage some where cos it is only for temporary use.)

So, for long term consideration, on and off, you'll need green water to groom your fish. Therefore, it is a good chance to find out which is the best way to culture it. So, a little trial and error now, and things will be easy for you in the future.

have fun! Cheers.

Hi Yeemiau,

My plan is to leave the greenish water (in glass tank) for another week...hope to see real green water by then and the koruko can live in it.
I understand my problem is lack of sunlight, so i need to get alternative source as u suggest. I plan to get 2 x 3' lighting for the cement tank. With the ligthing system i can cultivate green water in the cement tank for a week (same process like i did for the glass tank).
During that time, the korukos can stay either in the green water in glass tank or clear water in Ikea tank. My only concern is about the worm in the glass tank, pls advise!!
Once the cement tank is ready with green water then i move them back into.
In greenwater, i read that, we don't have to do water change, until the water turn too dark (blackgreen). Is that true?

But all the above can commence only when i buy the ligthing (waiting for salary lo..).

Cheers,

I'd be best if you can cultivate carpet algea or greenwater together with the fish in the tank. This is the best way and the safest way to do it. Leave one or two liter of old water behind (means 99% water change) will express the process too.
