They're not really a native species of ipoh though....

By letting them go into our native waters might be introducing disease our native fish have no resistance to and competition for food if they start to breed..

If they meet a channa, they're dead meat though :P

Just my 2 cents..

Er! Since when was Ranchu's ever part of Malaysian River ecosystem? As a breeder you should very well know the real responsibilities of protection of our local flora and fauna. No doubt.. it is rather impossible for GF's to propagate and thrive in our system.. but then again the act of releasing non indigenous species itself is already considered irresponsible. In trying to rid "culls" that are not up to mark, you should perhaps sell them of as feeders or get some predatory fish to feed on them.

Destroying the fries are more responsible than releasing them into our local flora and fauna.

Its proably illegal to relsease them aswel.. it is in this country anyway. You shouldnt relsease non native species into the wild.

Dude, if you have bred ranchu before, or any other fish that produces over even 500 fish fries, you will know that it is very very costly and extremely space consuming as well. For fries to grow well and not get stunted, etc, you need to concentrate on fewer number of individuals. If you are greedy and do not have the space, you will end up with a lot of stunted fish, etc.

Possibility of fancy varieties of goldfish to survive in our waters is almost nil.The common shubinkin may have a better chance though never seen any that managed to survive.

I believe in many countries that is true. It is the measures taken to control this matter that is different in each country.
