Notice:

Latest info on water....

Don't use Dechlorine agent to get rid of the tap water chlorine. Such as hypo crystals, Rm1/bottle thingie, etc. Best is to store water. If situation really doesn't permit, try your best not to over dose, use chlorine tester to measure best possible dose of dechlorine agents.

It is due to the chemical will harm the development of fish, that's all he explained. the rest, we have to find out ourself.

Yeemiau,

What about the fertilizer for the carpet algae growth or startup, what type do you recommend? Most of them contain chemical.

You said "best is to store", do you mean just by storing it overnight the water will be ok? what really happen to the chlorin, can story abit detail..please.

thank you.

Have you already started the culture? If you already did. Just let it be for the time being. Time to time, water change when you are free. Until 1 week before you collect the fish, just gently rub off the old algea and 100% change water. Just put tap water with air bubbles, don't add any thing else in it, then another 100% water change and gentle rub on the walls to clear off the dead ones (round 2) on the day before you do collection. fill in new water again with strong aeration. the whole purpose of this exercise is to seed your tank with carpet algea. With or without fertilizer is ok, no need to purposely buy. If you are familiar with usage of the fertiliser (just like those planted tank hobbist), by all means, you can add it in. If you don't feel confident on doing that, just leave it and let the algea come naturally. The main purpose is to add in nitrate, food for algea, to express the culturing. IMPORTANT, when i mention nitrate in water, please don't use any existing water from other pond/tank to replace the fertiliser. It'll bring nitrate, possible, together with virus, bad bacteria, etc.

If you are lazy, don't do anything until you recieved those fish. They'll have some seed carrying with them from my tank. 1-2 week later, you'll have the carpet algea also.

For the water storage, if the water under strong sun with strong aeration, Chlorine in tap water will evaporate in 3-4 hours. For indoor or shaded area, 24hr of storage with aeration is very safe. Recommended to buy chlorine tester to test chlorine before draining/pumping the water into the fish tank/tob/pond. Most important is the aeration, it'll agitate the water and chlorine will evaporate in to the atmosphere.

Chlorine tester is very cheap and useful. Buy a couple of bottles and use them as frequent as possible. Selling in Ipoh around Rm1.30 / bottle. My group normally buy by box and share within. 1 bottle can last me around 1 month.

I add some hormone for growing orchid or plant that i get from nurseries cost around Rm 2.50 (green colour)and used half teaspoon.

OMG,
After 1 week, the carpet grow more than 1 inch .Now look like hair algae!! to me.It's the 'bandaraya' job to clean the hair algae before the ranchu arrival. Then add water without add anti clorine for 2 time to kill all fungus and bacteria.

Make sure the ranchu don't get lost in you jungle. By the way, Gently clean those old ones everytime you do water change. We only need strong seeding.

Sensei,
what is the colour of the carpet algae good for 'wen 'growth?.light ,dark or black green.can the colour of the algae influence by sunlight?.

i had 1 tank that contain black green algae even i scrub every weeks....good or bad news?.the tank contain 5 high head goldfish that feed with Hikari sinking pellet and Hikari staple.do the high level of protein influence the colour of the algae or sunlight influence as the tank recieve 5 hour in the morning ?.

I found out that there 2 type of carpet algae in my place here, the carpet algae with hair grow and the flat dark black green carpet algae that very difficult to removed.which one that is recommended for japanese ranchu?.

For your case, as per our telecommunication, I think we better give it a fresh start, just in case. Wait till few days before you come to collect the Kurokos, scrub off all old algea, sun dry it and fill in with new tap water. give aeration and evaporate the chlorine. Prepare water storage tank for future water change use. Sensei deeply discourage people using anti-chlorine agent to get rid of chlorine. Especially, hypo crystals... it is some very bad stuff. No good for the fish's development.
