hi
I need some advice . I have an oranda that is lacking in energy and active. Always sinking to the bottom. For gf, the big stomach which is usually bigger size than or same as the head for gf - sign of healthy , well fed gf .That stomach is where gfs get their power and buoyancy. This one's stomach is a bit small. I believe the reason it has weakened is because it is not able to absorb the nutrient of the pellets that it is eating. The pellets usually pass out as black color for other gf but for this gf it pass out as same pink/red color . Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how to remedy this illness ? It nearly died (so weak it was stuck to filter pump) but I managed to save it using melafix and Interpet internal bacteria for two weeks ...right now it survive but still swimming around weakly. Should I put more vitamin and salt in the water ? What can bring back vitality ? Thanks |

hi friends,
I've already removed from others and is inside a bucket by itself . Change water every 3 days due to amount of poo quickly accumulated . Still surviving on pellets . It doesn't eat dry shrimp like others (threw some in) . Gonna try flakes next. Seems to be improving but couldn't swim much when I tried to put it back in the tank . |

It was better for a while . Now it's become worse and lying on the side atthe bottom most of the time . I think it's something to do with the fins - looks like the fin has formed a bone-like white thing (stick). Is that fin rot ?
I have used melafix and anti-internal bacteria, general aid medicine . What else can I do ?? What medicine for fin problem ?Thanks ! |

What water changes have you been doing? We have to rule out water quality problems before treating for other things.. as its the most common cause of illness and sounds likely with the symptoms shown.
For now do a big big water change, like 70-90%. This will get rid of all the medication you have put in there giving the fish a break from that. Chemical meds are very harsh on a fish and if you dont know what you are treating for you may do more harm than good with chemicals. Can you get a picture of the fish? |
