Lightbulb Newbie's Problem/Help-Needed Section!

As many newbie’s have tendencies of facing so much problems, why not share it with us in this thread. Hope that all the seniors can help them without going through problematic threads one-by-one. For me, it's just too much hassle browsing through many newbie-problem-related threads.

Guys, pls help them la.......

Thanks!

Goldfish basics

When acquiring new fishes:

- Get water ready before even buying the fish. As for new tanks, cycle them before purchasing any fish.

- Acclimatize them before unpacking @ home after purchase to prevent shock.

- Once fish are acclimatized, place them into nice clean water with 0.3% salt. Preferably, do not medicate yet.....let them relax & get use to the new environment first overnight.

- The next day, observe carefully/thoroughly for any sign of sicknesses. Medicate according to the problems. Put bacterial infections first (JYP is my treatment of choice) to get them healthy enough before any further caustic medications for parasites or PP treatment....etc.

- Quarantine (QT) new fishes for a few days before putting them into the main tank with the others. Make sure fishes are active without any sign of sickness before putting them into the main tank. Do not feed during QT.

Hope these basics will be just a little guide for newbies. Pro-keepers....do feel free to add-in more details.

Thanks!!!

Exclamation Photo taking

Taking a photo of your fishes seems to be quite a problem. Most seniors hobbyists would prefer to get a small aquarium that can only host one fish just to snap a photo of their fish.

That's the ideal way but if you guys do not have such a tiny tank, I reckon you should off you the filter & air pump, leave it for 1-2 mins the snap them cos at that moment the will slow down & become not so active. The most important thing about this is please remember to switch OFF your camera flash! If not....your fishes will be

Smile hi

Hi, We are vey new to keeping goldfish.. I kept tropical fish in an earlier life so am quite excited about having a tank again.. My son won a goldfish at the local fair, which when we went back to purchace the tank turned into two. after having them for a week, we decided that the small 10l tank was no good, we have now settled them in to a 78l tank and are very happy, we are now wanting to introduce a few different type to the tank, any ideas?
THanks for your help in advance.
Leaf

Leafy,

Good to have your enthusiasm in goldfish keeping! Kindly let us know your goldfish type i.e Ryukin, Oranda, Ranchu, Lionhead...etc that you are currently keeping?? We need to know the current fish type before recommending others. It's even better if we can have a pic of your fishes & tank.
