Default Newbie Problem, goldfish scared of light???

Hi, im new to keeping fish and i have recently bought 2 comets and they are currently residing in a 20 gallon tank. They have been perfectly happy for the last 2 weeks, i have an active filter and have been doing partial water changes every few days and the water looks very clean. My problem is that recently i was feeding them (dry flake food) and they were eating away when one of them started swimming really fast around the tank, darting about, and ever since that both of them have been sitting next to each other behind an ornamental tree looking very scared indeed! I dont know why they are scared, ive tried moving the tank to a different location but didnt help! As soon as you turn out the light, they go back to swimming about as normal, but if u turn the light back on they dart back behind the tree and dont move from there! I have no idea what is wrong, as they have been fine up till now! Ive tried adding some aquarium salt to the water but it hasnt made any difference! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pls share with us your setup. how big is your tank? what kind of filter system? what is your waterchange cycle? anything different or wierd on their body? photo can help also.

comet is a very hardytype of goldfish, very active...swim very fast. i have some wakin that behave the same, but later i keep them in a big floor tank and greenwater so they are comfortable even when i switch on the light.

i had same problem with my late moor when i just got it and kept him in 3' glasstank. whenever i turn on light he will quickly swim everywhere, even hit the glass. so best to switch off the light until he get confortable with the new place. never shock them with the light by switching at night, another tip to try later is to switch on from the day, make them use to the light, then let it on until night so they did not get shock. but always remeber to switch it off before you go to sleep, becoz the fish also want to rest. but try this tip later when they are more comfortable.

happy goldfishing and good luck,
