Thanks for all your comments. Another dog may be out of the question as I already have one but he stays indoors most of the time. I don't want to banish him outdoors or he might refuse to talk to me again. Haha!

A pond cover may be my only other option I think. Doesn't look good but I can remove it when admiring the fish.
