What I did to achieve the target that didn't tell you guys earlier is the help from my maid. I monitor the fish closely and feed it myself in the early part of the morning. Bought the maid a count down timer and give her the feeding timing (note: every morning will be different depending on my observation of the fish that particular morning). And, teach her the important things that she need to notice each time she feeds the fish; such as unfinished food, bad water, etc. And what to do each time she encounter those mentioned problems.
The body is not as thick as i desired therefore need to work on the digestion timing. No point for them to keep eating and doesn't digest well. the poo seems good, proper color, submerged, round and each 10-15mm long. at the beginning, there're mild sign of indigestion. During this water change, I've added in 0.5% salt to help a little. Result is very positive.

From what I understand, I believe there are 2 main objectives from current feeding program:
1) to achive the target, maximise feeding within the given time to boost growind speed. 2) to boost their body shape to be thicker. AS for me, schedule is: 3 BW cubes (12.5g) @ 4 times (1) 6.00-6.15am (2) 7.45-8.00am (3) 9.45-10.00am (4) 11.30-12.00noon. Trying to give as much BW they can take in 30min (more than 3 cubes) on feeding no.(4). Cheers, |

I found timing of water change also very important.
Did you realise during the 1st day of feeding after water change, their appetite is not as good but it improves during 2nd, 3rd... so on. I need to find some method to maintain their appetite during the water change period. Guys, any idea? By the way, Suggestions from phantom readers are most welcome! Let's join the discussions.... Just a simple procedure to register and we all can discuss and improve our grooming skills here. Cheers.

I do WC on afternoon, after they digested the last meal (12 noon). Move them to another tank with thin layer of carpet algae. So that day no more external feeding, they can only graze on the green carpet. That is my fisrtday. So actually they did not missed the morning BW meals on that day. The next day I found out their appetite is better than before water change. This I believe due to thick greenwater that make them feel not very hungry. Therefore it take them longer time to finish same amount of BW in greenwater compared to clearwater. Cheers, Last edited by chinaryukin : 26-06-2007 at 12:34 PM. |

By doing so, the fish will subject to high risk on gill illness, digestion system, etc. It is better to do it early in the morning and stop feeding on that day. Recommend not to move the fish on whichever day they are being fed. Cheers.

i do water change on 7am once every 7 days. Reason, maintain the water temperature. No feeding on waterchange day. Due to i dun have carpet algae yet, so they r 100% on diet. So, usually next day water change, they very hungry n whack a lot of BW.

Tan,
Strange that you don't get carpet algae growing by now. Is the place enough of sunlight? I'm using a plastic tub at the moment and normally I use a 3M hard sponge (Green) to rub the surface to score it a bit for better surface finishing to ease the algae growth. I only have morning sunlight till 11am. Cheers.

what poo is a "good poo"? i see some poo floating sometimes, what does it show about the fish's health?? and they're not very long, sometimes just short.
