Cool My Baby Guppies

Hi Everyone

I just recently discovered that I have Guppies and not Platies (Very unknowledgable salesman) Anyway one of my female guppies had three babies on 16 Jan 2005. I did not buy any special food for them as I thought that the broken pieces of the adult food was okay. I also did not remove them from the tank away from the adults. They are still alive today. Anyway I just wonder if they might be lacking any nutrients or something.

Your advice would be helpful.

Kind Regards

Hi,

I first discovered my baby guppies in my tank last week & immediately seperate them out to a microwave-save container (couldn't get a better small tank ). I put in some plant to the baby tank & have not feed them for 1 week. This week they are fed on powder fish food. Growing healthy & now they are swiming all over in the small 'tank'.

Sean

The only difference between adult flake food and fry food is the size of the food. The best food for fish, especially fry, is fresh baby brine shrimp.
You don't have to remove the fry as long as the adults are adequately fed and there are plants for the fry to hide in.

What you want is BABY BRINE SHRIMP - not the frozen stuff or dried stuff which is ADULT brine shrimp. Adult brine shrimp contains very little nutritional value for fish and the frozen and dried ones are no more than exoskeleton.
In Singapore, LFS sell newly hatched fresh baby brine shrimp but here in Malaysia, your best bet is to buy the cysts and hatch them yourself. Instructions on the bottle when you buy the artemia cysts.

I experienced something strange in the last couple days with my baby guppies. (Born Jan 19): Their tailfins started to go from a nice wide fin to a really thin fin. the end of the fin comes together in a tip
like that: ===>
In addition, their spine seems not straight horizontal anymore. It lookes like the spine is turning into a 'u'
My other fish are healty, only my baby guppies (still in breeding net in main tank) have that.

What the heck is going on???

Elli

I will try... thank you. Today, one baby is dead and another one has a really bad shaped spine. I will post how it looks tonight.

My tank developes into a "freak show"

I once had 12 guppies in my tank. Now only 4 left. I've almost given up hope to buy anymore new guppies. Concentrated on Neon Tetras now.
