Almost two weeks ago, I bought three red wag platies and two dalmation mollies. A few days ago, we found one of our red wags dead. We searched and found ick on the other fish and don't know how to cure it. Please tell us how!

I forgot to mention.....I have a ten gallon tank w/ about an inch and a half of little stones, could overcrowding be the problem?

Let me guess, u're not from Tropical Malaysia eh? I find that ick is not/hardly a major problem in Malaysia simply because of the temperature. We have almost year round temps of 30degrees C and at that temperature, ick just doesn't exist.

Anyways, here in Sydney I get ppl having major battles with ick, and when I ask that they crank up the heat to 30degrees C they look at me funny and say that 's too hot. Most tropical fish are farmed in South East Asia, and temperatures here are between 30-34degrees C all year round!

Anyways, my advice is to crank up the heat and add a propriety ich remedy which should contain malachite green. No feeding while on medication and ich should be cured quickly if caught early enough. No major dramas with ick..

Thanks, but I live in Wisconsin (USA), so approx. what would those temps be in Fahrenheit, my guess is like 82. Also, my dalmation molly just had seven fry. Will this temperature change affect the fry?

30 C is around 85 degrees F, so make sure your fish can handle that. If thats too hot, just go as high as you can. Your fry should be fine. My molly had fry and the conditions were far less than ideal with doing water changes and such. If they grow up with different conditions, they will usually do well with anything. You can buy ich medication from just about any pet store that sells fish stuff. kevkoi gave good advice saying the remedy should have malachite green. Good luck!
