I have 2 female guppies. Both have something strange going on.
First, The smaller one has red "things" sticking out of its anal hole. There are three tiny red lines coming out infront of it's anal fin. Almost poking into the anal fin. What is it?? Second, the larger one... looks VERY pregnant, but has been that way for 2 -3 months. She has gotten so big that her spine is kindof bent from the weight. She has the black spot in front of her fin, but I can't see anything in side of her. They are both lively and eat well. Any ideas what is up with our girl guppies? |

Ouch.... ur guppies have a columnaris worm infestation. This is an internal parasite that sucks it's food off the guts of the fish leaving the fish malnourished (ie bent spines etc.). It appears fat because the belly region is full of these worms! Often this is a big problem with fish in LFS as many are left untreated.
The treatment I have been successful with is a 3 day dose of Flagyl. Active ingredient is Metronidazole. Other products that contain this active ingredient is Octozin by Waterlife. Treat the fish ASAP. |
