The trip will be visiting the local penang guppy farms and a huge lfs store which sell lots of fish equipments and accessories. The main point is it is also quite cheap.

Wow what's the itinerary like? LOL..... Cannot read hanzi so eventhough you give the link it's quite useless for me. Have you guys identified the farms that you're going to visit?

Sponge filter have its weak point, when temperature change the fish will infected by white spot specially if you didn't clean the filter regurlary.

I would recommend you guys to use undergravel filter instead of sponge filter, this system work almost perfectly for keeping guppy. You can save up lot of time to clean filter and change water. It can last for 1 month if you manage feeding properly.

under water gravel filter (UGF) also has its own disadvantages. it works perfect for a couple of months or so with proper water changes and gravel vacuum. But later u need to take the whole UGF and gravel out to clean the poos / debris trapped inside UGF. this is the really headache time .........

too much work, so i gave up UGF..... i got 10kgs of gravel at home from 2 tanks..

Hehe Jinjang eh? If I'm not able to join the Guppy Trip I'll drop by to see you. My house is less than 10 minutes from there. BTW Can you get me the microworms then?

Hehe what guppies you wanna tapau this time?

True also. All types of low-cost solution has it's own pro & cons. Therefore is up to breeder to pick & choose the most suitable system for them. Even now with a couple of extra tanks, I'm starting to complain about the weekly water changes routine. Anyway I found out that even with filters, you still have to do a 100% water change after a couple of times partial water changes. I know now what's causing the death of my guppies.........

100% water changes is it required?

my tap pH is 8. my tank water is about 7 pH. usually i only change 50% water every week.theory is when i mix pH8 with pH7 water, pH should rise to about 7.5pH for 50% water changes. only 50 times more alkaline. still not that bad..

I don't know about your situation. Mathematically it's correct but theoretically not so simple because other factors will effect the fluctuation of pH of your water. This would probably holds true for undergravel filtration where there's still residue of faeces/food that still undergoes decomposition even after 50% water change which would immediate effect dilute the pollutants however we couldn't gauge the state of decompostion at the time of water change that would overtime accumulate and therefore causing a sudden pH crash. I managed to monitor this phenomenon thus reduced the potential mortality. We have to bare in mind that percentage of water change only affect chemistry composition in a linear pattern. However, decomposition might happen exponentially because of decomposition bacteria can/able to multiply exponentially. So in effect, there would be accumulation. Just my 2 cents hope I didn't babbled too much
