I've got some female guppies in isolation, even though I see some of them could be pregnant. When I spot a really huge belly, I usually put her in a hatchery so she can safely deliver. Problem is, each time I isolate the female, she seems to pine for her friends and after a few days alone, she died. This has been happening twice and its made me very wary of isolating them now.
Why does this happen? I thought they'll be more confident on their own to drop. |

i dun understand y the female died.
i suggest that u put all female guppies into hatchery when u see a female guppy gona make a drop.this action is gona suit tge behaviour of ur guppies and prevent death. after the guppy dropped the fry,u collect the fry into separate tank and let out all the guppy that u reared in hatchery hope this can help. |

Hi,
What I usually do for female guppies is to remove them from the main tank and place them in a small tank with few strands of elodea. I usually do this about 1 week before the drop. The female gestation period is about 30 days, but it depends. After a while you will figure out the exact gestation period. I find that by doing this, the female won't be so stressed when they finally make the drop. Once, I forgot to remove a pregnant female and then I removed it just before the drop and it failed....few fry survives. Mainly due to the female's stress I believe. By putting one female in a single tank also means that you have to have lots of small tanks. Besides including plants, I also do daily small water change. Hope this helps.

I just isolate my female guppy and let it give birth, nothing wrong as at now. Eventhough some said the female will wallap their babies but this seldom happen in my tank. I have lots of RREA albino, swallow tailed, ribbon, platinium and sky blue. Pauline have seen it all, she knows how I breed guppy, its my way.

Hi,
I'm new here, so i hope you all dont mind if i do anything dumb. I've had my guppies for about a month and a half now and when i bought them, 4 were pregnant. i did what commercial singaporean breeders do: i placed palm leaves in the tank to provide refuge for the young. this enabled 9 of the 11 young to survive to their age (about 3 weeks). at about two and a half weeks, they were no longer harssed by the adults and were able to swim out into the open no problems. |
