1st thing to consider : Source
2nd thing to consider : Money $$$

Source : How do you find quality guppies in Malaysia? Do you think those LFS/Agent willing to import high value guppies into Malaysia?

Money $$$ : How many of us (those guppy kaki) able/willing to spend RM100++ for a pair of normal grade guppies? Do you think those show grade (value from RM300 up to RM1000) guppies can be accepted by those kaki?

And one more in my mind, who is qualify to judge what is so call "Quality" guppy in Malaysia?

Yes, agree with your opinion. As me there is a limitation spend when do the purchasing. other thing difficulties to get a supplier or source locally. Very limited. Local LFS only selling normal guppy cost at RM 1.00 to RM 4.00 depend on size. If goes to farm some of the strain have been cross breeded.

its not money i am promoting I promoting guppies keeping. Yes agreed that LFS do not stock show quality guppies neither do they stock show quality Betta or cichlid.

If there is will there is alway a way. This hobby is not for the faint heart who will always say guppies are Rm1 fish. What is good about hobby is that it brings people togather.

It does not have to be expenisve. The thing I see in local fish keeping scene is that people JUMP ON BAND WAGON. MEANING IF THEY SEE SOMEONE PLAYING WITH GUPPIES OR BETTA THEY ALSO WANT TO DO SO. WHY BCOS THEY THINK CAN MAKE MONEY MAH.

Hobby is not always about making money and I have many argument with betta boys. Its about personal achievement. Developing a new line or maintaining a line of betta or guppies

Most people just buy and TRY to keep it, some cant even keep them alive. Then they get disapppointed then give up. GOOD example is FH, money to be made so every hse or everyone try to breed and sell. HAHAHAHAHA see what happen JATUH into jamban.

My advise is read and learn more about the fish you are going to keep first before you embark on your journey.

Yes buying show quality anything is expensive, be it dog , cats or fishes. If you have enough knowlegde you will be able to breed and sell the F1 later the returns are there but slower.

MOST important its the pleasure it brings to you. Be it fish or anything else. We must have passion to achieve what we set out to achieve. Saying I want is not enough, why THAI and SG can but not here????

They are ASIAN too like us. WHy discus we are top? Never was like that. THINK

SOURCE - never a problem, we can import, how do you think the Thais or SG boys got theirs?????

MONEY - no investment no return [but buy within your means]

This discussion is getting interesting.

All points well presented.

Uncle Yogi, good to know that you have a stand.

Alot of people seemed to think there's money to be make out of fish breeding that will spell doom right from the beginning. This is what we called "Cow Mentality". Where's the "Cow" heading there's where the people will follow even to the deep ravine. So people will get all hyped up and simply join because the "potential return" to be made. It comes back to greed in human nature.

That's why I kept some "common" strain also. Although the strain is common but how often do we see show quality of these "common strain"?? It was my wish to breed them to show quality and to breed pure. Sometimes I just don't want to entertain people who do not seemed to understand especially when they asked me what strain I currently have and their faces expression when I said Flamingo, HB Red or Neon Blue simply because to them this strains has no commercial value whatsoever. Mind you once a commercial farmer takes on mass production whatever strain will be worthless as well eventually.

For me a show quality Neon Blue/HB Red is way better than a mediocre Emerald Vienna DS or Medusa or anything new in the market. I'm not against fancier strains because I will get them myself when I have all the required means. Just to point out what a true breeder/hobbyist ought to be.

Agreed with you guys. It is quite hard for Malaysian to breed with true "hobby", most breed only for commercialize.

Really upset when ppl who came to me for guppy end up with others fish.
