I hear one of LFS near Sg.Way got the stock from the IWK sewerages pond.
Not sure how true's is. But do at your own risk.

I found that if you buy daphnia near the afternoon, a significant amount of them are already white (dead). So, I went one early morning and got few bags of FRESH daphnias ... almost all red!!!

Placed in 1 week old water + green water + yeast + slow bubble + in steroform box. Everything by the book!!!

OK, so this time, they lasted 4 days!!!

So, to answer the original question of this post ... I keep all sorts of fresh and sea water fishes, and also corals ... but in my years in this hobby, I must say that breeding live daphnia is the MOST DIFFICULT for me ... but maybe it is just me!!!

OK, there is a chance that my tap water has too much heavy metal, and it is killing these buggers ... ONE LAST CHANCE!!! This week, I will use FILTERED WATER and try again!!! And if it does not work ...

By the way, I know water with $#!+ is good for them ... but many people also have success with just using yeast ... so, for health reasons, I will stick to yeast for now!!!

Hello everybadi,

Long time no c. I veli busi....wah it rhymes kekeke.

CC,

Correct it breeds exceptionally well in pang sai water. I alrd wrote previously my pops swears at cow dung as the secret ingredient. But momma gonna chop me if I bring cow dung back so dropped the plan to breed daphnia.

Kamalruzaman,

What makes you think the old town fella didn't get his from Oxi Pond oso. Kekeke all the betta sifus scoop weekly from the Oxi Pond lar. Walauea can safe alot of costs. Unluckily for me the Oxi Ponds near my area all reinforced with brick walls and barb wires after too many breakins.

Goodreef,

4 days oni?? mine lived for 2 months but not the baby red daphnia lar. I got a group of more/less 10 adult daphnias racing around my tub. Due to insufficient food they cannot reproduce and the population stays that way for 2 months now until my mother cleaned it up scared of mozzy breeding wor. So thats the end of my daphnia breeding project.

So anybadi here wanna take up cow dung to try?? kekeke I can provide you the recipe......

4 days only and that's the truth ... sounds like I've got some fundemental issues here ... I suspect maybe with my tap water ... I will try with filtered water tomorrow, and see what happends!!

I just got my hands on a batch yesterday. So far so good... using old aquarium water and fish crap to fertilize culture. Also feeding golden pearls (50-100) microns to load them up with some vitamins before i feed to fish(they turn a bit red). Tossing in some turtle pellets to grow bacteria for them to eat and a bit of bakers yeast. I'm not gonna go for the dung method.... far too yucky.. can get plenty of dechlorinated water from my 3 tanks nearby to perform water change..

Uncle.. everyday where got so free drive down to pj old town to buy daphnia.
I staying in Kajang la.. If can buy everyday I go buy lor. RM 1 one big pack enough to feed quite a number of fish.

Condoms... got infusoria also... sperm kind of small enough for them to eat right? Dunno who so hardworking tfk to feed daphnia. And people culture daphnia with dried blood also... so sanitary towels also might actually work! But who would want to touch it..

MW so good? Won't become smelly meh? MW mah fan also lah... have to start new culture from time to time and then have to feed everyday also...

Please let me know if you have success in your breeding program!!! I have virtually given up on my side!!!

As for MW, people keep on saying it is smelly ... man, what do you use??? The last time I kept MW, it was not smelly at all!!! But after 6 months, the 2 batches crashed, and all died!!

Till now, still looking for MW, but cannot find ... anyone can help??
