I've got two tanks going with daphnia and snails. Seems to be multiplying well. I feed my fish every day with the stuff, a bit everyday to supplement. Now my ramirezis won't even eat the tetra granules I used to feed them. Always pecking around for daphnia.

I thought of a better way to grow bacteria for daphnia... I threw my terrapin into the tank. That fella just eat and sh*t = bacteria. I will also toss in any dead fish I find (my dried up flavatra one of them). Otherwise no other dead fish liaw. Seems to be working well... but then it's just day 3.

The larger daphnia tank is actually a large water lilly tub at least 30-40litres capacity. Gentle aeration. Filled with old aquarium water only. Kept in shade.. but I think it will do better with more light... grow more algae. EVerytime I do a count I get more daphnia, so the culture is multiplying....

I've seen it sold in Pasar Road too... may be closer to Kajang than PJ Old Town... but still petrol will cost much more than the daphnia...

Ruslan, which shop on pasar road? Lucky Star Trading?

My cultures... one is still going, but stopped being very productive. The culture not dense enough. There's still daphnia in there though. Maybe I don't feed it enough. Still too queasy to use faeces, but I suspect it's the best food for them. Another one in a smaller tank infected with hydra... grrr.. how the hell it got there I dunno. I notice quite a lot of other micro-organisms in there too. Lots of weird little things. One is a small black slug like thing sliding along the sides.. some thread thin worms. All sorts.

I'm trying to do this again... Man these buggers are hard to keep. If you think keeping fish is hard.. try breeding daphnia! I experimented quite a bit. You see... I have a dog.. and it goes about it's natural business... so I had this idea of putting some of it's business into the daphnia bucket. It worked for a few days until I decided to add more of it.. and some old bread. Poof the daphnia all died overnight and the smell... whoa. This time i'm trying with a chunk of bakers yeast, the wet type which will hopefully release the yeast slowly into the water for them to feed on.
