Squareballs,

From our feeding regime and environment, yes I would say we need at least 9 months to achieve the size and full development of the finnage. I was told that the winning fishes were at least 2 inches long from head to tail. My largest male fish only recorded about 1.8 inches (I mean the better fishes with even finnages and body to tail ratio). In term of size, we already lose out.

2nd point is maturity. Since our temperature is higher here, our guppies mature faster than guppies in other temperate/colder regions.

But feeding regime plays an important role in guppy development as well. Space is also a vital factor. They feed their guppies solely on bbs and at a frequent rate to groom these champions. Heavy cullings are practised to make sure only the fast growers are maintained. By looking at the stocks I've came across, I'm not surprised if these particular fish is only 6 months old. 2 inch in 6 months??? Thats a feat we have to achieved

Yes I know your BG is that big but does it conform to the competition standards?? From topview I can't really see except it's big or in other words long enough. I oso have mar.....it's only not even QCeable .

IFGA (American) standard: 10:10 body to tail ratio
IKGH (European): 10:8
Asia : 10:8
Body size: there's a minimum but winning lines are always on the 2 inch mark or the largest fish if all of them score relatively similar in terms of caudal, dorsal and vitality. And don't forget the wow factor although judges supposed to be professional. Bigger guppies always attract better attention

And the standards are so detail until the span of caudal is specified and must have a certain degree for deltatail. Otherwise penalty will be given.
