Default guppy.....im clueless

hey there.
im new to this forum..so srry if i repost of ask a stupid question.

well..here goes nothing.
i have 4 guppies, 2 male, 2 female. i got them about 48 hours ago, and when i put them in, they all seem to do perfectly fine! then..yesterday, one of them, a black and grayish female, always stays away from the others, usually at the very top of the tank...sometimes it goes to the bottom. whats wrong?! my other fishes, they are doing ok i guess...the other female is being chased around by the 2 males, and that same female would scare the males away. im not sure if the males are trying to get that girl pregnant or not.

thanx!

if you need pix of the fishes, ill be glad to take them

Edit::: (about 4-5 hours after this post)
the black and grayish female guppy is laying at the bottom of the tank, breathing heavily, and all fins are up. is this a sign of it about to give birth? as ive read that the females tend to stay at the bottom before giving birth?

If it hasn't given birth by now, there's probably something else wrong with it. Look at the fish closely for signs of damage/infection/disease.

how big is the belly of the female?if it's quite big..maybe it's going to give birth...
if not...maybe it's stress...

Is your tank planted??If it's planted and it requires Co2 injection, your fish might be suffering from amonia attack(sorry if i spelt amonia wrongly)Did you cycle ur tank? Your baby guppy might be dead, check ur filter. It might have been sucked into the sucktion into your filter. You know what?Last time when i was cleaning my filter i found out that i had a few cheery shrimps in there, large ones! If there's no sign of it in your filter. It's gone.

ok so..here is whats going on now. The baby guppy fry i was talking about, is alive! or it maybe another fry from another female..
yes, my tank is planted with some plants. the baby is in a hatchery right now.
last night i observed that the fishes were swimming really slow.(2 females and 2 males) and in the afternoon, one of the males died. i have no clue. so i did 30% water change, added conditioner etc, and the fishes seem to be find. any ideas what caused this. can it be stress? my tank is a 28-29 hex.

oh yea...how do i know exactly when a female guppy is about to drop. it looks pretty fat, with the black spots, and is moving its fin kinda fast.

Default birth

Well you never really know exactly when a female will drop but here are a few sytoms that may result in birth :

1. sitting in one place
2. gravid spot will get darker and bigger
3. very skittish
4. swim all over
5. arching their back and pushing
6. aggressive behavior
7. their colors typically fade
8. hiding in or behind things
9. their vent starts opening
10. stops eating or very hungry
11. wiggling body back and forth
12. a baby pops out!!

that covers alot of ground right there if you fish has at least half of those symtoms then its very likely she may be getting ready to have some fry or is already in the process of having fry.

Another way is to watch your female in a few births .. she will usually show the same sytoms each time this will give you a way to find out if she will give birth for the certain female
