Default Is it okay...

Is it okay to put snails in the same tank as guppies?? Also about how many guppies can go into a standard 10 gallon?

hi guppyluvr,

I'm not sure bout the snails but u can put a maximum of 10 adult guppies in a standard 10gallon tank (1 fish = 1 gallon). Try not 2 put more than that as it will overcrowd the tank. Hopefully this helps.

hhmm... i'm not an expert but here's what i found out.
yes, generally u can mix guppies with tetras (xcept black tetra & bloodfin tetra). Tetras requires a school so u need to consider buying them in a group (4 tetras in a school or more). hopefully that helps

hi guppyluvr,
sorry 2 hear that. most of the reason for death among guppies are the water. kindly check your water in your tank. Is it properly condition (with anti-chlorine & salt)? Is the filter in good condition (the filter wool not brownish/running smoothly)? Is the water clean (no or little waste at the bottom)?. Maybe u can search thru the Internet on how 2 maintain your tank.

How long have the tank been running? You have to make sure the tank is properly cycled.

I think thats where i messed up...the tank has only been running for about 4 days.....dang...so i guess it's my fault. I had no idea i needed salt in the tank....i have a 10gallon standard tank....filters running good, clean.Tanks nice and clean, i guess it could be the levels....i don't have a water tester yet..I did put one TBl spoon of aqua safe in the tank when i first set it up..

Just read up on Nitrogen Cycle and learn about what happens to the tank water during the first month of setting up a tank. Most people face fish death and other problems during the cycling stage due to the lack of understanding.

4 days is not enough time to introduce fishes. This is the time when toxic chemicals build up and beneficial bacteria start to colonise the tank.

To help speed up/stabilise the tank faster, add some bacteria boosters like Nutrifin Cycle. Some plants in larger quantities do help establish the tank faster by soaking up the toxic chemicals like ammonia and nitrate. Plants include cabomba or hornworts. They absorb these chemicals for photosynthesis.

Here's an article on Nitrogen Cycle. http://www.my-mac.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1453

Good luck.
