not sure if this is the right board, but i have an angelfish and a goldfish (not the best mix i think) and was thinking about getting guppies or tetras. will the angelfish eat them?

Angelfish and goldfish are definitely NOT compatible. For one, goldfish are cold water fish and angelfish are not.
Furthermore, goldfish move slowly and angelfish can be agressive. Goldfish are extremely dirty fish - they poo a lot - and angelfish are more fussy with their water conditions. There are a whole host of differences in the two species of fish and their living requirements. Keeping them together is cruel.
I suggest you decide if you want to keep angelfish OR goldfish before you proceed any further.
I hope this helps.

LOL! Guppies again are incompatible with both angels and goldfish. Certain larger tetras are fine with angelfish but make sure you have lots of plants so that the tetras have hiding places from the angelfish. Angelfish can be agressive bullies.

I have seen photos in which angels and guppies are kept together but I would be reluctant to do this for a number of reasons:
1. angels and guppies have very different water requirements. Angels like soft water and guppies slightly harder water.
2. angels would bully the guppies and nip their long fins relentlessly
3. guppies would bully the angels and nip their long fins relentlessl,
(both of which would cause your fish a lot of stress and would impact on their lifespan)
4. guppies are livebearers -give birth to live fry- which the angels would eat.

These are reasons off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others who can think of other better reasons why NOT to keep angels with guppies. Generally goldfish are not good with other fish because they pollute the water too much.

If you really want to keep angelfish, goldfish and guppies then I would suggest that you do what I did and keep them all in separate tanks. Word of caution though, like me, you could end up with more than 15 tanks (including quarantine tanks).

Hope that helps.
