Question HELP! Are these guppies?

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a 10 gallon fishtank & a friend said she had a bunch of guppies she'd give me. Any guppies I had ever seen had a big, colorful fantails. There are 2 sizes to the fish she gave me & I believe the larger are the females, some look pregnant. The females look like plain old minnows that you'd find in a stream.... no color at all. There's smaller ones, which I'm guessing are the males, have color & are a bit larger than a neon. If I have the male & female part correct, there's about 9 males & 14 females. The males keep nipping at the females sides & hind end, not the tails. They're not biting off pieces, it's like they're bugging them or something. I've attached a pic. If anyone can give me any info at all... good or bad, I'd appreciate it.

Hi there,

They looked like wild/original form guppies as far as can be seen from your blurry photo. Colorful fancy tailed guppies were developed through selective breeding over a period of time from the wild forms.

Based on the guppy standard diagram here: Guppy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , your fish do not seem to be guppies.

Wow buzzonat, that's a real BIG and CLEAR male

GTti, the standards mentioned in Wiki are tail forms developed through selective breeding. The photo here is showing what we considered here as the feeder guppies. They, feeder guppies, are also poecilia reticulata despite without the fancy tails.

Well just as long as your tank is big enough to support the growing population, there's no need for a specific male-female ratio. You might need to cull them when the population exceeds the capacity of your tank.
