I recently 'rescued' 2 black widow tetras and 1 cloud mountain minow from a pub down the road where they were completly neglected: not fed for months, not cleaned and living in a algae ridden filthy tank etc (rescued with permission)

I put them into my tropical tank at home (after setting up a new tank and cycling it etc so they are the only fish in 60l tank) and have been monitoring the water temp and levels daily (which are all spot on) but for some reason they seem to just hide in the plants and the food doesn't seem to be getting eaten. they look healthy but i'm just unsure as they aren't very active and dont seem to be eating am i doing something wrong? or could they be accustomed to only eating algae?

Your fish might be suffering from shock. Do a little research on the fish see what there personalities are and what they eat. Eventaully they should eat whatever your giving them. If you do want to give them some algae, you could either buy an algae supplement or you place a rock from their tank and put it in a water-filled container. Place the conntainer in an area where it can recieve direct sunlight. Algae should start to grow on the rock. When its covered, take the rock out and place it in the tank for the fish to eat off. Put a new rock in and repeat. That should help!
