Not as difficult as breeding cardinal tetras although they're from the same genus. Basically they need to be bout 6-7 mths to reach sexual maturity. You then select the healthy male and female (can see their bellies rounded) to be placed in the breeding tank. Put in 2 pairs if you wish.
You need to have a spawning cone, or any ceramic material, or make you own spawning mop with wool threads so eggs can be deposited. Some floating plants like java moss or riccia and a sponge filter. Water has to be acidic between 6.2 - 6.5 to induce spawning. Occurs usually at night or early morning before sunrise. You must be diligent as they're known to eat the eggs! Remove the parents from the tank and yr eggs would hatch between 24-48 hrs. |
