I recently purchased two guppies from my local pet store and, to my surprise, found a stow-away! A guppy fry was also in the bag. So, when I got it home, I put it in it's own tank (probably .5 gallon or less) so my guppies wouldn't eat it.

Anyways, it's been about two weeks since I got it and it seems a tiny bit bigger. But I was wondering just how long it will take to grow into an adult. Right now it's very small, but there seems to be a little bit of color on it's body (pearlish tone) but other than that, it's still mostly white. Can anyone guess on how old it is from that information and give me an idea when I will be able to put it in the tank with the others? Thanks for any info you can offer me. Also, if you need anymore info about it, please ask.

You didn't mention approx length of the fry but judging from the time frame from whence you got yr fish, it would be just under a month old. Are you feeding the fry any sort of infusoria or liquid fry food? These fries are very sensitive and many factors can cause mortality like water quality, and aggression from the adult guppies.

I wish you luck on bringing the little fella up!

Right now I'm feeding him a freeze dried brine shrimp and flake mix and he seems to like that a lot. And since he's in his own tank, there isn't a problem with the older fish.

Also, about the length, its difficult to tell, but I think he may be about 1/4th of an inch long.

It's probably not even a month, approx. 1 to 2 weeks. You can't judge him/her right now. Try to feed him 3 times a day but pls. control so that your water quality can maintain in longer time. In prof way, you can feed him more than 3 times a day but the bad thing is you have to change the water the next day, however this made your fry grow fast. The guppy can only be transfer to your main tank with the adult after 3 months (minimum).
