How would you boost up nitrate levels? right now my nitrate levels are always at 0.

Nitrate level depends on whether your tank is planted or not. For planted not good... plants use nitrates for their growth. Their source of nitrogen. Somemore can cause BGA growth (ugly). But if it's not planted.. 0 nitrate is fine. With Yamato.. as long as conditions are stable and within healthy levels they're fine. If there's sudden changes in water conditions.. yamato start acting funny... like climbing to the water surface and hanging out there... trying to escape.

To increase nitrate level.. Add KNO3... potassium nitrate. It's available in powder form.

Increasing bioload and ensuring good biological filtration will also create nitrates when Ammonia is broken down into nitrite and then nitrate.

It is good to have a planted tank and keeping yamato. The best still the mosses. Normally the micro-organism will growing inside the mosses which is the food for yamato or other shrimps.

Yes i am having a planted tank (as pictured). At the moment my water parameters are as follows:
Nitrate- 10
Nitrite- 0
GH- >10 dh
KH- 6 dh
PH- 7.6

Ph is running at the high side. Are yamatos sensitive towards ph levels? How can i lower the ph without resorting to chemicals?

Your water kind of hard.. you have any igneous rocks leaching minerals into the water? pH is fine for most fish, but if you really want to lower it add a little peat to your filter, but it won't really be a permanent solution if you have decor that hardening your water and raising your pH. ADA soil is an expensive solution you could use .

Thats the thing soyadude..i don't have any rocks in my tank..Could it be my substrates? I recently topped up the substrate with Hagen Geo system substrate. I can't put peat in my filter because my tank is so small hence the filter is also very small! I'm thinking the cheapest option is to chuck in a ketapang leaf?

The leaf might cause issues since it will color the water and the amount of light reaching the plants (especially the lower ones) will be reduced.

BTW, are you injecting CO2? CO2 will reduce pH but it might also cause Yamatos abandoning the tank if the levels are too high.

yeah i'm running co2 but theres no way i can boost it because i am using the fermenter type..so don't really have the option to regulate it..unless i run 2 canisters..ahhh i need my yamatos back!! algae killing my glossos already and the cherrys not doing a good job

Saw the setup with nice root look alike wood there. Suspecting there are 2 main reason causing the PH high. First, your pipe water may in high PH level like 8-8.5. After injecting the CO2 and managed to lower down to PH7.6 2nd, your gravel might contained small shell or those coral sand which not suitable for planted tank.
