Default Jumpin' Yamato

Recently, my Yamatos have been doing the kamikaze by jumping out of their tanks. I have seen them out of the tank on several occasions. I suspect there is something wrong with the water quality, hence the strange behaviour, so looked around the tank and found a dead fish trap on the filter. This might have skyrocketed the ammonia level and made the shrimps unhappy? Anybody experienced their shrimp boycotting by jumping out of their tank?

How big was the dead fish and how big is your tank? If one neon died in a 4 footer.. wouldn't affect the water quality that much. Then again.. if your fish are dying, that's a bad sign for the water quality already. Yamato are known to try to escape if conditions are unfavourable. I've seldom had yamato jump out on me... doesn't take much to please them but i've definitely heard a lot about them jumping out.

I have had 2 cases of yamatos jumping out. Good jumpers and also good walkers. Found one once walking along my living room floor. Another occasion, one bugger made its way to the shoe rack - 20feet from my tank! Made the mistake of topping up 2 litres of water without dechlorinator. Yamato took a hike that very night.

me experience the same thing too last time. Cause are:

1. Water level to high
2. Bad water quality

Water too warm may be one of the cause too...I notice all my yamatos are all moved up to hang-on to something near surface when I once try to put in a heater to bring up the water temp due to fish kena white spot dieseas.

Like what Dom mentioned, you need to check your water parameter as these shrimps is very sensitive towards changes in water esp PH......i have 5 Yamato shrimps in my 2' Planted tank and they have been living very happily in the community.. for the past few months and none of them jump out or whatsoever......they do grow as day goes......my current ph level in my tank is quite stable around 6.8 - 7.0.....
