Dear members,
Have some questions here for you if you know by experience and read from somewhere, pls share your views. I have a few pieces of pregnant crs and 1 diamond female. I read somewhere that someone tried catching them and putting them in breeding nets, this way the hatching rate is higher, but he didn't elaborate how much higher or reveal any numbers. 1) Now, do you think I should catch them and put them into nets until the shrimplets are hatched? 2) Will doing this(catch and confining them in breeding net) stress the females too much causing 'miscarriage'? Basically, I have shrimplets from my CRS but I want to improve on mortality rate or hatching rate of the youngs. Will the above help? Just shoot your views. Rgds, Isaac

Soya dude,
No fish that will eat them but the mortality rate is not that high, could be due to flat worms(planaria) in my tank. Read somewhere that isolating the pregnant female may increase the number of shrimplets that I will get. Anyway, since nobody knows, I jump already. Last night caught one piece of female crs slowly and guide her into the breeding net inside the same tank. No stress during catching but don't know how she will take to the new breeding net environment althought it's inside the same tank. She's doing ok with eggs intact this morning when I check. Looking at the size of the eggs, probably due in another 1 week. Got another 2-3 pieces holding eggs when i lured them out with food last night so I'm going to experiment with this female crs.

I tried to be as gentle as can be, it just put the net near the female, she crawled on to the net, then slowly i move her until she climb into the net herself, all this done inside water without taking her out. That's why there shouldn't be much stress in the catching activity I did last night. More worrying is how she will react to the confinement area in the same tank. Dom, I remember you posted or suggested a way to trap the planaria right? was it good? Can you share again?

You can try yr luck if the eggs nearly hatched...and the female will not release the eggs after you transferred it.
For the future safe...you can transfer it and lose only this batch. Yes. that method of catching planaria is working. Very good result. Check on shrimpnow for the pic. |

Found it, thanks.
http://www.shrimpnow.com/forums/show...light=planaria btw, if you put this trap in, will your shrimps go into the trap as well?

some of the shrimp will trap in....if they are in...sure died. coz of the planaria will produce some slime type of saliva and stick all over the shrimp.
try to place it on the gravel or where hv the smallest gap. No worry about the planaria. How small of yr gap is. They still able to go in.... |

Ok. thanks for your tips. I'll try your method. Have to find a bottle first.
