Default Cherry Shrimps growing healthy.. but one died

Hmm.. I have just brought 10 cherry shrimp from LFS last 2 weekend everyone of the shrimp are living health so far.. and I could see some small shrimp that is just born that could be from those pregnant shrimp I buy..
But last nite as I was looking over my fish tank.. I found a dead shrimp..
How long is the life span of cherry shrimp?
Could it be after the cherry shrimp give birth it will die?
Or anyone else know about why it died?

Shrimp died can be due to lot of reason. Normally they have 12-18 months life span. Some able to survive more than 18 months. It is all depends on your water condition. You need maintain 0ppm/l of NO2 and Ammonia. Below 10ppm/l of NO3. Temperature is around 24-28C. Overdose of liquid fertilizer might kill the shrimp. They are sensitive with water change or PH/KH swing.

I have bought many shrimps over the last few months and many have also died. My luck is this: the ones that die are the bigger sized shrimps. If I buy the smaller ones (younger) they live well. Others have told me their experience is the opposite. Another thing to watch out for is when they are shedding - that's when they are the weakest. Can kena attack by a crazy fish or more agressive shrimp.

my tank is a 4 feet tank.. not too many plants yet.. got a lot of wood tied with moss but not growing at the capacity i expected yet..
hopefully there are more than 1 baby shrimp and they are just hiding..

Do we need to feed the baby shrimps??
hmm.. just wonder how long does it take to grow up to adult size too..

Hi Nick,

Mind if i ask what filtration you're using for the 4ft tank?
Is it standard 4ft tank?

Regards,
John

I am using a standard 4 feet tank with under gravel piping for the aeration of the gravel and also with the ehiem canister filter..
Does it make any difference because of the filter used?
This 2 days seems to be okay..
Didnt see any shrimp die.. yet..
Just curious I notice the female shrimp is kinda aggresive and protective.. i saw it drive away another shrimp that tried to go near her..
not sure anyone experience this..

hi nick...
maybe u can check what dom mentioned earlier. cherry is already quite hardy and with the pattern your shrimp is dying, i would take note of the water parameter as it is very important...

well, anyway, newbies normally learned the hard way when it comes to shrimp...

Default Hmm. best KH/PH test kit?

Hmm.. anyone has any idea what is the best test kit for PH/KH?
What is the brand of test kit?
How much would the test kit cost?
Would be glad if someone could list out some as for my reference to buy it...
Thank you..
To keep my fish tank temperature down.. I was thinking if I could buy those ice-box ice packs that is consist of chemical in the box that is harder to melt.. to keep my tank cool.. at lower temperature..
Anyone tried that before?
