Default The Memoir of Apple Snail

I create this thread to keep track on apple snails life. For snails lover, pls do free to add in comments.

I got two apple snails in 2 feet tank. Being keeping them bout month already.
In Penang, its hard to get variety of snails. I got it from local lfs, located at Jelutong market.

Wen I first got it, they were the size of 50 cent syiling.

If you got one, just becareful, don't put it into planted tank. They will just eat anything and everything.

I feed them will plant I got it from local lfs, cheap one lah. Everytime i scaping my planted tank, those extra plant, I will just throw it into for them. I also wen into the river to get some plant, but pls make sure you clean it to avoid any bacteria or parasite.

They also feed on vege, any type. I would suggest a green one. But the problem is vege got spoild easily and make the water cloudly and dirty. For those who have turtle, will have the same problem. So every time I need to take out those un-eaten vege.

Snails need calcium to keep their shell look nice and hard. Few source of calcium; green vege, sea shells and sand.

Then bout last few days, I found out they start mating and on the same nite, they lay eggs. They will leg their eggs above water level.

P/s good website about apple snails http://www.applesnail.net

Here is the photo of baby golden apple snails. Its each of it is a size of 0.1 cm, pretty small.

Seem like I have bout only 40% success hatching. And to my surprise, my tetra are picking on the baby snail and eat them. I have to move my tetra to another tank.

Well, this morning I found out they lay egg again. I think they are too free and got nothing to do except for mating...hehehe...

This time I manage to capture nicer photo of the eggs. But this time it lay in two different location, with smaller volumn.
