Default Pregnant Swordtail

Hi,
I have a pregnant swordtail female. I dont know anything about Swordtails, mainly Bettas and Gouramis. I bought her from the pet store that I work at because she is HUGE, and I didn't want the fry to be sucked through the filter which is what happens to most of them

I have fry food, but how do I know when she is going to pop those babies out? Right now she is about as thick as my thumb, and the dark spot on her abdomen is about 3/4 of an inch long.

Thanks for your help!
-Kristy

Hi Kristy,

Just separate her from the rest of the fishes. put some plants or anything for the fries to hide after the female drop her fries. separate the mother from her babies after she gives birth.

I have never had that problem with my fry. They are too big to get sucked up. If they don't have hiding places they will swim in the open at a young , weak age and get sucked up. Make sure they can hide. Mine always hide in the pebbles.
