Exclamation Something wrong with Female Molly.

I just bought her yesterday from a local pet store. She seemed healthy but now that she's in my tank (29 Gallon) she just lays at the bottom, almost as if waiting to die. The male molly and rainbow shark are doing just fine, it's the female molly. My dad said maybe she's laying eggs but I said Mollies don't lay eggs they are live bearers. So I was wondering is her just lying around part of her going to give birth? Or is she ill? Sorry I can't be more specific. I don't see any black dots on the female (or in.) Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

- Dann

maybe internal bacterias, are u keeping them in brackish conditions? well that's not a good sign. add some melafix to it, it'll help. well u gotta quarantine it so it doesn't spread if its some sort of disease (nasty buggers would infect every fish inside)

Looks like internal parasites to me. Best to isolate her before she infects others. I had a platy just like that, very thin, no desire to eat. Eventually it died. Found out later why... You can try Melafix though I've never used that before. What I use is a product called Tika and it's in a a small droplet bottle not unlike the EyeMo bottle. You can buy this at 88Marine.

I pretty much agree with the others but thought I would tell you that Melafix works great. And is probably one of the best things you can get from LFS.

If your tank is new it may be suffering from "New Tank" syndrome. The new tank may not have benifisial bacteria that fish need. You can buy a bottle of solution at pet stores.
